Maharashtra is comparatively an advanced state, so far as the competitiveexams. at the school level are concerned. For the lst ten years, Maharashtra is atthe top so far as N.T.S.E. (Std. X) is concerned. Out of a thousand selected students at the national level, at least 200 - 250 are from Maharashtra. As the N.M.M.S. at the national level, out of one lakh students, at least 11-12 thousandsare from Maharashtra. Those selected are the scholarship holders (of Rs. 500/-per month from Std. IX to XII). But this is not enough. If we think of U.P.S.C. or I.I.T. Entrance Exams., Maharashtra is still at 4th or 5th number.
Primary / Pre-Secondary / Secondary Scholarship Exams. for Std. IV /VII are taken for the last fifty years. For the year 2015-16, this exam. is cancelled. From the next acxademic year (2016-17) the same exam. will be taken for

In the past, Maharashtra Ganit Adhyapak Mandal used to conduct the
'Ganit Pravinya' and Ganit Pradnya' examinations for the students from Std. V /
VIII. from the last three years it is conducted as 'Ganit Prabhutva Pariksha'.
The Mandal has published separate syllabus for Std. V / VIII. Questions
carrying 80 marks are from these books. The examination is of two levels. Questions are short and long. It is expected to solve each example with explanation.
The first level exam is conducted on the 2nd Sunday in December. Students
getting 75 or more percentage of marks are eligible for the second level. This
exam. is on the same syllabus but a bit more difficult. This exam. is conducted on
the last Sunday in February.
Student getting atleast 50 % marks is awarded a certificate and he/she
who gets 75% marks is awarded a cash prize.
Usually 40 to 50 thousand students appear for this exam from Mumbai,
Pune and Nashik regions. The exam is simultaneously conducted in all the three
regions. The question paper is the same. The exam time table is also the same.
The syllabus is quite of a level. The example is to be solved step by step.
Separate marks are for each step. It is expected to give explanatioin for each
step, if necessary. Division of marks is according to that. It is not possible to
answer the question unless the concept behind it is very clearly understood. So
this exam is very important from the the point of the strong mathematical base
for the preparation of maths olympiad.
